Health and Wellness
At Sunrise, every child gets to spend some time playing in the sunshine every day.
There are numerous benefits of outdoor play: it allows them to explore their environment, develop muscle strength and coordination, and gain self-confidence.
Playing actively outdoors also increases flexibility, fine and gross motor skills, and is related to the development of a wide variety of physical skills, including those involved in sports.
Children have a great need for physical exercise and exposure to sunlight even produces a healthy dose of Vitamin D!
Daily outdoor play gives children a change of scenery, an opportunity for large muscle development, and fresh air. Our proprietary curriculum includes “out of the box” outdoor experiences to enhance classroom learning!
Children eat better, sleep better, and feel better after playing outdoors.
Exposure to cold, wind, or dampness does not make children sick. Children become ill when they are stressed by exposure to conditions for which they are not prepared and when they are exposed to germs that are new to them in a quantity that is too large for them to fight off.
When it is very cold or very hot, we take the children outdoors for shorter periods of time. To protect children from sun exposure, parents are encouraged to apply a long-acting sunscreen to their child before school each day.
